The key to quick and efficient makeup is to use fewer products, but also choose them well. The advantages are twofold: first, you don’t have to dig around a pile of cosmetics to find what you want, and second, a smaller collection makes it easier to mix and match. And thanks to modern research, there are now several makeup choices made specifically for busy women. If you’re strapped for time but want to give yourself a new look, here are some quick makeup tips to help you out.
Start with good skin.
A good foundation is vital to any makeup style, and work makeup is no exception. While skipping the foundation will save you time in the morning, it often increases the need for touch-ups throughout the day. In the long run, it also makes you more prone to acne, blackheads, and other skin blemishes. So always start your face makeup with a layer of foundation that suits your skin tone, dries fast, and is made to last all day.
For busy women, the perfect base is a light product such as tinted moisturizer. This both serves as a foundation and a protective layer, so you only need one application instead of two. Some even come with sunscreen, which saves you even more time. To avoid shine, pat on some loose powder afterwards. This will also help set the base and help it last longer. Depending on your skin tone, you may also need some rose blush or bronzer to liven up the color.
Focus on the eyes.
Eye shadow is often considered a makeup staple, but working women can actually do away with it. Experts recommend using only eyeliner and mascara, which helps define the eye shape and make them stand out more. Choose the right lip makeup.
One important rule in makeup is that the eyes and lips should complement each other. Many women color both their lips and their eyes, resulting in an overdone look that’s almost tacky. In the workplace, it’s usually the eyes that stand out, so keep your lip makeup to a minimum. Makeup experts recommend that women use colored lip gloss on regular days, but keep some lipstick handy for when they need some quick color.
Some women already have nice-colored lips and don’t even need color to spice up their look. If this is the case, you can do with a clear lip gloss or even some petroleum jelly. You can also put it over lipstick to give it some shine as well as make it last longer. You can apply it directly or with your fingers, but for better precision, you can use a small brush or a cotton bud.

While you should choose makeup that lasts all day, you can’t avoid the need for occasional touch-ups. The trick is to make sure you need them as little as possible, and that you don’t spend more than a couple of minutes every time. take a look around your work environment—do you find yourself going out a lot, or are you at your desk most of the day? This can help you determine your makeup needs and choose the appropriate products.
Keep a small pack of makeup tools so that you can do touchups anywhere. A travel pack of foundation, eye makeup and lip gloss can easily fit into a purse, along with a small compact mirror. If you work in a hot, dry environment, keep some mineral water in a spray bottle—apply a light spritz whenever your skin starts feeling dry.
